This opens with aromas of bark, espresso, tar and cassis. The palate is medium- to full-bodied with precise, firm tannins, dark velvety fruit and a well-structured finish.

The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature hails from Gualtallary in the Uco Valley. This aged for 13 months in French oak barrels, 30% of which were new. Purple in hue, it opens with aromas of herbs, pepper, mint, cassis and licorice, all wrapped in a core of dark fruit. The palate is broad and juicy, with fine-grained, grippy tannins and the firm structure typical of the vintage. It has the aromatic clarity and reactive tannins characteristic of 2023. Tasted after eight months in bottle, this shows promise.

The 2023 Susana Balbo Signature Malbec Valle de Uco Mendoza displays a saturated ruby-purple color, with fragrant spices that bring delight to the aromas; medium bodied, sturdy and slightly tannic on the palate, it offers black fruit flavors supported by well-judged, balancing wood, finishing firm and composed—ideal alongside Argentine-style grilled short ribs (asado de tira), where the wine’s structure and savory edge meet the richness of the meat. A noble variety bestowed with both power and concentration, Cabernet Sauvignon enjoys success all over the globe, its best examples showing potential to age beautifully for decades. Cabernet Sauvignon flourishes in Bordeaux's Medoc where it is often blended with Merlot and smaller amounts of some combination of Cabernet Franc, Malbecand Petit Verdot. In the Napa Valley, ‘Cab’ is responsible for some of the world’s most prestigious, age-worthy and sought-after “cult” wines. Somm Secret—DNA profiling in 1997 revealed that Cabernet Sauvignon was born from a spontaneous crossing of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc in 17th century southwest France.
With a winning combination of cool weather, high elevation and well-draining alluvial soils, it is no surprise that Mendoza’s Uco Valley is one of the most exciting up-and-coming wine regions in Argentina. Healthy, easy-to-manage vines produce low yields of high-quality fruit, which in turn create flavorful, full-bodied wines with generous acidity.
This is the source of some of the best Malbec in Mendoza, which can range from value-priced to ultra-premium. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay also perform well here.
