Winemaker Notes

The combination of long hang-time; wide breadth in ripeness; and slow, cold fermentations; all create a uniquely delicious Sauv Blanc. Typical Stolpman Sauv Blanc notes of citrus and hay give way to lusher passion fruit, pear, and green apple. The low-yields drive round, mouth-filling tactile layers that marry with the fresh pop of acid on the finish. Their most compelling Sauvignon Blanc yet!

Capable of a vast array of styles, Sauvignon Blanc is a crisp, refreshing variety that equally reflects both terroir and varietal character. Though it can vary depending on where it is grown, a couple of commonalities always exist—namely, zesty acidity and intense aromatics. This variety is of French provenance. Somm Secret—Along with Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc is a proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon. That green bell pepper aroma that all three varieties share is no coincidence—it comes from a high concentration of pyrazines (herbaceous aromatic compounds) inherent to each member of the family.

Accounting for only ten percent of the greater Santa Ynez AVA, Ballard Canyon’s north-south orientation provides an ideal pattern of sunshine and martime fog for producing excellent Syrah. While Syrah is planted to half of the total AVA acreage, an additional third is dedicated to other Rhône varieties, red and white.
