Winemaker Notes

Tasting notes: The color is bright, deep morello cherry-red. The nose reveals aromas of blackberries, raspberries and ripe strawberries with just a touch of tobacco and spices such as clove and cinnamon. It is a medium-bodied wine with elegant structure, balanced acidity and very ripe, elegant tannins. The finish is moderately-long, dominated by red fruits and followed by sweet vanilla and black pepper.

Professional Ratings

  • 92 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

With fruit sourced from five villages across the appellation, the Domaine Skouras 2024 Nemea Agiorgitiko Saint George offers a fresh and primary expression of Greece's flagship red grape. Approximately half of the wine is aged in neutral oak, adding texture without imposing obvious wood character. Dimitris Skouras deliberately avoids an overly robust style, instead favoring freshness and drinkability. The wine shows a medium garnet appearance with aromas of cassis, violet and subtle clove, while hints of tobacco can emerge depending on the vintage. The palate is clean and balanced with bright acidity, modest weight and an emphasis on pure fruit rather than concentration.

Native the Peloponnese peninsula of Greece, Agioritiko is the star variety here and in fact, the only one permitted to carry the Nemea appellation. While it favors the hot Mediterranean climate of Greece, it performs best in Nemea’s high altitude mountain vineyards between 1,350 to 2,000 feet where fully ripe grapes can also achieve great acidity and structure. Somm Secret—As one of Greece's oldest varieties, wines made from Agioritiko were historically often associated with the half-god Heracules and referred to as the "Blood of Heracles.”
