Sierra Norte Pasion de Bobal 2012 Front Label
Sierra Norte Pasion de Bobal 2012 Front Label

Winemaker Notes

It is a dark-cherry colored red wine, very intense in color, and with purple hints. In the nose, it shows very clean aromas of red and black fruits, strawberries, raspberries, cassis, very well balanced with creamy and pleasant toasted notes from the barrique. It also shows a slightly spicy touch of liquorice. In the mouth, it is rich, fruity with round and ripe tannins. It has good acidity, and shows nice notes of vanilla, smoke and coffee. A powerful wine but with a very elegant balance.

The 2012 Pasion de Bobal is really perfumed with white flower aromas fused with blueberries to offer an open, aromatic, expressive and elegant nose. The palate is medium-bodied, with good balance and freshness. This is a well-crafted and drinkable commercial wine.

Spanish red wine is known for being bold, heady, rustic and age-worthy, Spain is truly a one-of-a-kind wine-producing nation. A great majority of the country is hot, arid and drought-ridden, and since irrigation has only been recently introduced and (controversially) accepted, viticulture has sustained—and flourished—only through a great understanding of Spain’s particular conditions. Large spacing between vines allows each enough resources to survive and as a result, the country has the most acreage under vine compared to any other country, but is usually third in production.

Of the Spanish red wines, the most planted and respected grape variety is Tempranillo, the star of Spain’s Rioja and Ribera del Duero regions. Priorat specializes in bold red blends, Jumilla has gained global recognition for its single varietal Monastrell and Utiel-Requena has garnered recent attention for its reds made of Bobal.
