Frühlingsplätzchen, meaning "Little Place of Spring" consists of red slate, gravel and quartz.
The nose is fine and delicate, citrus and pear with a slate underbelly. Very harmonious on the palate, creamy citrus, tangerine, limeade and pear mix with a delicate, yet gripping minerality.

From shallow red slate and very old vines, the 2021 Frühlingsplätzchen GG offers a bright and radiant bouquet with stony and herbal aromas intertwined with notes of crushed slate and Amalfi lemon zests. Crystalline and pure but also lush on the palate, this is a linear, precise and saline, crunchy and challenging Riesling with an extreme slate stamp, reduced fruit and charm but with the intensity and extract for long development. This firm, almost austere long-distance runner will reward our patience.

At once flinty and floral (spring blossoms), this is explosively young, the intensity building and building as this silver surfer rides over the palate. Razor-sharp finish that is blindingly intense. May be too much for some in this very youthful form, but we find it already very exciting.

A regal variety of incredible purity and precision, this versatile grape can be just as enjoyable dry or sweet, young or old, still or sparkling and can age longer than nearly any other white variety. Somm Secret—Given how difficult it is to discern the level of sweetness in a Riesling from the label, here are some clues to find the dry ones. First, look for the world “trocken.” (“Halbtrocken” or “feinherb” mean off-dry.) Also a higher abv usually indicates a drier Riesling.
