Winemaker Notes

Reflecting its Southern Rhone heritage, vast black fruit on the nose with a presence of cherries and berries, along with cranberries. Showing lovely floral charchteristics with hints of black licorice, cinnamon and cocoa powder. Palate displaying raspberry, tea leaf and violet components with fragrant notes of pepper, oregano, and thyme with leather and spice on the finish.

Pairs beautifully with lamb skewer appetizers and roasted cauliflower with stewed vegetables.

Blend: 69% Grenache, 16% Syrah, 12% Mourvedre, 2% Carignane, 1% Counoise

With bold fruit flavors and accents of sweet spice, Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre form the base of the classic Rhône Red Blend, while Carignan, Cinsault and Counoise often come in to play. Though they originated from France’s southern Rhône Valley, with some creative interpretation, Rhône blends have also become popular in other countries. Somm Secret—Putting their own local spin on the Rhône Red Blend, those from Priorat often include Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. In California, it is not uncommon to see Petite Sirah make an appearance.
