Winemaker Notes

Deep purplish red in color, this Syrah has intense aromas of berries such as strawberries and cassis with a floral note accompanied by meaty smoke and tobacco. This wine is a generous, mature, and well-structured with a pleasing, long finish.

RP 90
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2010 Barrel Reserve Syrah sees six to eight months in barrel. It has a simple black currant wine hum bouquet with well-integrated oak, although it remains tight and backward in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet entry of raspberry and wild strawberry, a keen citric thread and quite an elegant finish considering the price point. This is very fine for the price.

Santa Ema Santa Ema Vineyard Winery Image
Over the years, Santa Ema has been recognized by the most important national and international organizations and has earned numerous medals in competitions such as the Concours Mundial de Bruxelles and distinctions in the prestigious international trade magazines. It was recently added to Wine Spectator's list of Top 20 World's Finest Value Brands, Wine Advocate rated four Santa Ema wines above 90 points, and Wine & Spirits named it Value Winery of the Year. But for Santa Ema, the most important distinction of all is the preference of its consumers around the world to appreciate the work of three generations dedicated to the production of consistently high quality wines.

With an outstanding reputation for its bold reds, especially Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Carmenere, the Cachapoal Valley spreads through the northern part of Chile’s Rapel Valley, with a continuous backdrop of the majestic Andes to its east. This region reaches as far north as the southern outskirts of the city of Santiago where it meets the famous region of the Maipo. The Cachapoal Valley produces no shortage of plum and berry dominated full-bodied reds with aromas and flavors reminiscent of mint, cocoa, spice or smoked meat.

Marked by an unmistakable deep purple hue and savory aromatics, Syrah makes an intense, powerful and often age-worthy red. Native to the Northern Rhône, Syrah achieves its maximum potential in the steep village of Hermitage and plays an important component in the Red Blends of Southern Rhône, adding color and structure to Grenache and Mourvèdre. Syrah is the most widely planted grape of Australia and is important in California and Washington. Sommelier Secret—Such a synergy these three create together, the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre trio often takes on the shorthand term, “GSM.”
