RP 92
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A new project from the Soda Canyon hillsides, this wine was initially made by Helen Turley, but since the spring of 2005, it is being fashioned by Philippe Melka. There are 1,000 cases produced from a 14-acre vineyard (hard, volcanic soils planted with 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Petit Verdot) owned by Charles and Charlie Roy. The Petit Verdot is undoubtedly responsible for the wine’s distinctive, spicy, singular perfume of earth, herbs, licorice, flowers, black currants, and cherries. A promising, medium to full-bodied red with outstanding depth as well as moderately high tannin.
Range: 90-92

Roy Estate, California
On the eastern side of Napa Valley, in the foothills of the Vaca Mountains, there is a secluded vineyard - the vineyard of Roy Estate. The mission of Roy Estate is to produce the very best wines possible from this tiny valley within a valley.

As the proprietors of Roy Estate, we think of ourselves as caretakers of this special property. We feel privileged to be entrusted with its care.

Our first wines, the 2004 Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon & 2004 Estate Grown Proprietary Red Wine, were released in 2007.

One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wines. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
