Winemaker Notes

A powerful, intense wine that also displays elegance and balance, bringing out the character of the terroir. Intense ruby, with violet nail, and with complex aromas that bring to mind sour cherries, currants and other wild berry fruit, mingled with licorice and vanilla. A wine of great structure and complexity, which is soft and velvety, thanks to its richness and the perfect ripeness of the tannins.

Blend: 75% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon

Professional Ratings

  • 95

After hailstorms and humid weather early in the 2016 growing season, conditions improved near harvest. According to Marco Ricasoli, the cabernet sauvignon (30 percent of this blend) was some of the best he has produced. Firm, mineral tannins give shape to the wine’s juicy plum and raspberry flavors, while hints of mint and fennel brighten the red fruit tones.

Blackberry, blueberry, dark cherry, spice, sliced mushroom and dark chocolate on the nose. It’s full-bodied with firm tannins. Firm and focused with a succulent, flavorful palate. Long finish. A blend of merlot and cabernet sauvignon. From organically grown grapes. Drink from 2022.

Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best red wines. Sangiovese reigns supreme here, as either the single varietal, or a dominant player, in almost all of Tuscany’s best.

A remarkable Chianti, named for its region of origin, will have a bright acidity, supple tannins and plenty of cherry fruit character. From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
