Winemaker Notes

The 2013 Lorna-Marie Pinot Noir is a serious wine-drinker’s indulgence. Both bold and taut, the wine is charged with tension, grace, and depth. Aromatics include fresh raspberry, vanilla crème,and pie crust, with persistent and complex flavors of rhubarb, orange, and fines herbes. A balanced and precise structure showsdazzling interplay between acid, tannin, and fruit, creating a delightful palate experience that lingers for an age. This will continue to develop for many years, rewarding both the impatient and the pack rat.

Polished, showing a velvety texture to the deftly restrained black currant, plum, smoke and spice flavors, coming together harmoniously with a minerally streak on the precise finish. Drink now through 2023. 170 cases made.

Patton Valley, Oregon
Patton Valley Winery Image
Patton Valley was founded by Monte Pitt and Dave Chen in 1995. We met in the mid-1980s while attending business school in Chicago. In between classes, we found ourselves exploring Chicago's legendary wine shops and developing a passion for what we consider the world's finest wine: Pinot Noir.

Having caught "Pinot fever," we pursued our dream of owning a vineyard and making wine. Our search led us to Oregon's Willamette Valley, where we purchased a 72-acre parcel with the ideal combination of soil, exposure and elevation. With the site for the vineyard in hand, we formed Cherry Hill, LLC, the parent company of Patton Valley Vineyard.

Home of some of the planet’s most amazingly elegant and expressive Pinot noir, the Willamette Valley is a pastoral, mixed landscape of green, bucolic rolling hills, dramatic forestlands and small, independent, friendly wine growers. As a leader in environmental stewardship, the valley has some of the nation’s most protective land use policies, with two-thirds of its vineyards farmed sustainably and over half, organically. While the valley claims a cool, continental climate, and is heavily influenced by the cold, moist winds of the Pacific Ocean, its warm and dry summers allow for the steady, even ripening of Pinot noir.

The potential of Willamette Valley Pinot noir continues to attract the investment of serious growers and winemakers both locally and from abroad, as naturally the finished wines bring accolades from professionals and enthusiasts. With a range of styles from delicate dried cherry, raspberry and hibiscus to stronger notes of truffle, mocha, plum and spice, a fine Willamette Valley Pinot noir is a perfect expression of both character and grace.
