Winemaker Notes

The Chardonnay for Oxford Landing is grown on a range of sandy soils of varying depths over limestone. Careful irrigation control on these sites promotes well balanced vine canopies which protect fruit from overexposure and allow the maximum retention of flavors.

Oxford Landing Chardonnay is pale gold in color with hints of green. Lifted stone fruit, melon and citrus aromas are complex with subtle hints of white nougat. The palate shows fresh peach and citrus flavors which are balanced by a rich, creamy mid palate. A lively acidity complements the palate richness, leading to a long refreshing finish.

One of the most popular and versatile white wine grapes, Chardonnay offers a wide range of flavors and styles depending on where it is grown and how it is made. While it tends to flourish in most environments, Chardonnay from its Burgundian homeland produces some of the most remarkable and longest lived examples. California produces both oaky, buttery styles and leaner, European-inspired wines. Somm Secret—The Burgundian subregion of Chablis, while typically using older oak barrels, produces a bright style similar to the unoaked style. Anyone who doesn't like oaky Chardonnay would likely enjoy Chablis.
