Winemaker Notes
One of the first projects from Ostatu was a wine named Ostatu. Made from vines that average 40 years of age, a green harvest is used to reduce yields. After fermentation in stainless steel tanks the wine is aged for 12 months in French oak. With a beautiful garnet/crimson color, the Ostatu exudes aromas of cacao, spices and toast. The palate is very even and dense, showing lush fruit that is framed by mineral undertones.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2008 Ostatu, a wine composed of 95% Tempranillo with the balance Garnacha, Graciano, and Mazuelo. It sports an aromatic array on mineral, potpourri, and a confiture of black fruits. Dense, savory, and ripe on the palate, it has the structure to evolve for 2-3 years and will provide considerable pleasure between 2014 and 2023.
Hailed as the star red variety in Spain’s most celebrated wine region, Tempranillo from Rioja, or simply labeled, “Rioja,” produces elegant wines with complex notes of red and black fruit, crushed rock, leather, toast and tobacco, whose best examples are fully capable of decades of improvement in the cellar.
Rioja wines are typically a blend of fruit from its three sub-regions: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Oriental, although specific sub-region (zonas), village (municipios) and vineyard (viñedo singular) wines can now be labeled. Rioja Alta and Alavesa, at the highest elevations, are considered to be the source of the brightest, most elegant fruit, while grapes from the warmer and drier, Rioja Oriental, produce wines with deep color, great body and richness.
