Racy acidity augments the high-toned, bright notes of white-peppered cranberry and red tea. Italian herbs season raspberry and tomato leaf. Its food pairing abilities are superb. What a charmer.

Pale ruby red in appearance. The nose offers lifted aromas of wild blackberries, charcuterie and violets. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and bright acidity, giving notes of dark cherries, coffee, sarsaparilla and graphite. Fresh, friendly and complex. Drink or hold.

Decanter
Coming from the French Camp site, in the southeastern corner of Paso Robles, in the rain shadow of nearby Black Mountain. Tart and floral aromas, lilac, lavender, and sweet raspberry coulis. It's light and lifted on the palate, with sweet raspberries, fresh-cut strawberries and a tinge of sweet spice.
Native to Southwest France, Valdiguié also maintains a fairly substantial history in California. Given its high-yielding capacity, Valdiguié became very popular during the Prohibition. Until 1980, Californians called it Napa Gamay because of its similarities to Gamay as a finished wine. But in that year, a French ampelographer, Pierre Galet correctly identified it as Valdiguié—not Gamay. Today it still grows in pockets of respected appellations throughout the state. Somm Secret—In France it is also called Gros Auxerrois.
