Nuestra Soledad Zoquitlan Mezcal
Situated between two rivers, Santa Maria Zoquitlán has several basic crops like corn and beans, but also exotic fruits like watermelon and papaya. The soil is rich in various minerals, and these features influence the flavor profiles of agaves from this community.
Mezcal Nuestra Soledad is a celebration of the unique terroir and distillation traditions of six different villages within the Valles Centrales region of Oaxaca, Mexico
Oaxaca is the most geographically diverse state in Mexico, with a wide array of microclimates, vegetation, and ecosystems. Nuestra Soledad is comprised of six distinct expressions of mezcal from six different regions of Oaxaca, intended to highlight elements of terroir in mezcal production. Made by the same producers as El Jolgorio, Nuestra Soledad is made using 100% agave Espadín, most often harvested in remote areas with wild vegetation and unique soil types.
Mezcal Joven or “young” is bottled within two months of distillation without barrel aging and will appear clear, like a Vodka or Gin. Longer barrel aging, with the principal aim to soften and round a spirit’s flavor profile, is often most prized by connoisseurs. However, many die-hard Mezcal enthusiasts insist that oak takes away from the purity of the agave flavors—ranging from earthy and smoky to sweet and floral, often in the same Mezcal—and that Mezcal Joven is the best expression.
