Winemaker Notes
The 2016 vintage “Old Vine” Zinfandel is a delicious blend. One hundred years ago, when the Mueller “Old Vine” vineyard was planted, it was a mix of over 85% Zinfandel, with a dash of other varieties for seasoning such as Petite Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre and even a white variety for spice.

From a vineyard site that is a century old, this “field blend” Zin also sees Petite Sirah, Mourvedre and an unnamed white variety in its mix. Scents of balsamic, anise and tobacco lead to an elegant palate of streamlined silk. Concentrated and mouth-coating, flavors of black raspberry, soy sauce and a hint of spearmint leave a lasting impression.

COMMENTARY: The 2016 Mueller Old Vine Zinfandel is attractive and compelling. TASTING NOTES: This wine explodes with concentrated blackberries and slight oaky notes in its aromas and flavors. Pair with a juicy, grilled ribeye. (Tasted: June 2, 2020, San Francisco, CA)
