Made from a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon and 18% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Bacchus Red Blend offers up aromas of juicy, tart cherry, dried blackberry and cranberry on the nose before offering up subtle oak tones and baking spices with a sweet floral essence. Medium-bodied, this 13% alcohol wine offers lively acidity with flavors of red cherry skin, cinnamon-poached plums and dusty blackberry skin as tannins build in the mouth. The wine ultimately finishes with lingering elements of bitter dark chocolate and black tea. Only 20 barrels worth of wine were produced after spending two years in neutral French oak barrels.

One of the world’s most classic and popular styles of red wine, Bordeaux-inspired blends have spread from their homeland in France to nearly every corner of the New World. Typically based on either Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot and supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, the best of these are densely hued, fragrant, full of fruit and boast a structure that begs for cellar time. Somm Secret—Blends from Bordeaux are generally earthier compared to those from the New World, which tend to be fruit-dominant.
