Sourced from vineyards in Happy Canyon and produced by Greg Martellotto, owner and winemaker of Martellotto Winery, this Cabernet Franc delivers total elegance. Savoury wild herbs, sweet bay leaf and spearmint lead the aromatics, followed by cherry fruit and slivers of dark chocolate. Robust tannins provide good grip, while the acid-driven finish is clean, long, and mouthwatering.
Cabernet Franc, a proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon, is the subtler and more delicate of the Cabernets. Today Cabernet Franc produces outstanding single varietal wines across the wine-producing world. Somm Secret—One of California's best-kept secrets is the Happy Canyon appellation of Santa Barbara. Here Cabernet Franc shines as a single varietal wine or in blends, expressing sumptuous fruit, savory aromas and polished tannins.
On the eastern end of the Santa Ynez Valley, the rolling hills of the tiny Happy Canyon AVA produce top quality reds from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and whites from Sauvignon blanc. The region’s low-nutrient soil grows smaller vines and in turn, higher quality wine grapes.
