Winemaker Notes

Bright steel grey, white gold hued. Smells amazing and complex. Loaded with aromas of grass, herbs, minerals and yellow/pink grapefruit pith. A great marker for Sancerre. Vibrant, rich and mouth-filling complex expression of Sauvignon Blanc with savory elements, excellent natural acidity balanced with fruit and nuances of wood. Structured and built.

The 2021 Sauvignon Blanc D brings more complexity as well as richness. White grapefruit, toasted bread, tart lemon, and some chalky, mineral nuances all emerge on the nose, and it's medium-bodied, with a beautifully balanced, elegant mouthfeel, integrated yet racy acidity, and a great finish.

The 2021 Sauvignon Blanc D is bit richer and creamier than the Sybarite. It's a style that works so well. Vinification in barrel adds gorgeous texture and resonance, something this vintage needs at times. Pear, green apple, spice and a kiss of new oak builds nicely in the glass.

Struck stone, singed grass and crisp pear aromas make for a complex nose on this barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc. The palate smacks with lemon-like acidity before more rounded pear flavors broaden the crisp, detailed sip.

This has terrific purity to the pineapple, Meyer lemon, yuzu and makrut lime leaf flavors on a fresh, juicy frame. Gains intensity on the finish, where details of fresh-grated ginger and lemongrass emerge. Drink now.

Capable of a vast array of styles, Sauvignon Blanc is a crisp, refreshing variety that equally reflects both terroir and varietal character. Though it can vary depending on where it is grown, a couple of commonalities always exist—namely, zesty acidity and intense aromatics. This variety is of French provenance. Somm Secret—Along with Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc is a proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon. That green bell pepper aroma that all three varieties share is no coincidence—it comes from a high concentration of pyrazines (herbaceous aromatic compounds) inherent to each member of the family.

On the eastern end of the Santa Ynez Valley, the rolling hills of the tiny Happy Canyon AVA produce top quality reds from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and whites from Sauvignon blanc. The region’s low-nutrient soil grows smaller vines and in turn, higher quality wine grapes.
