Mad Fish Western Australia Shiraz 2001 Front Label
Mad Fish Western Australia Shiraz 2001 Front Label

Winemaker Notes

This is a fantastic Aussie Shiraz, and an amazing value! Full of fine peppery robust fruit. Mad Fish is grown and produced in the Margaret River region 300 miles southeast of Perth. The breeze off the Indian Ocean means it is cooler by day and warmer by night, ideal conditions for viticulture.

"Consumers, retailers, and restaurateurs should be buying the 2001 Shiraz (14,000 cases produced) by the case. It boasts a saturated ruby/purple color as well as a gorgeously sweet perfume of blackberry liqueur, licorice, and pepper. The wine is filled with fruit and glycerin, with a low acid, plump finish. This pure Shiraz is a knock-out effort for the price. Drink it over the next 3-4 years."

Marked by an unmistakable deep purple hue and savory aromatics, Syrah makes an intense, powerful and often age-worthy red. Native to the Northern Rhône, Syrah achieves its maximum potential in the steep village of Hermitage and plays an important component in the Red Rhône Blends of the south, adding color and structure to Grenache and Mourvèdre. Syrah is the most widely planted grape of Australia and is important in California and Washington. Sommelier Secret—Such a synergy these three create together, the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre trio often takes on the shorthand term, “GSM.”
