Winemaker Notes

A decadent Grenache-forward blend that screams, “Drink Me!” Rich, ripe, and fragrantly hypnotic, the wine lures you into a trance as you discover that ah ha! Moment. Black cherries, ripe raspberries, cinnamon, and cocoa fill the olfactory senses as the wine slowly and seductively wraps around your tongue. It’s not a dream, this wine is that good! Sticks and Stones represents the best Grenache that we farm here at Linne Calodo. A quest to let our Willow Creek District fruit express its true colors.

Blend: 71% Grenache, 22% Syrah, 7% Mourvedre

Vinous
Deep lurid ruby. Intense red berry preserve, cherry pit and spicecake scents, along with subtle cola and woodsmoke accents. Stains the palate with sweet raspberry and boysenberry flavors that deepen and pick up a sexy floral quality with aeration. Displays an appealing blend of richness and energy and shows no rough edges. Finishes juicy, smooth and impressively long, with harmonious tannins lending shape and gentle grip.

COMMENTARY: Can a wine be transcendental? Some of the coolest and memorable wines I have enjoyed in my life have been Grenache-based. The 2016 Linne Calodo Sticks and Stones is a momentous wine. TASTING NOTES: This wine doesn't stop as it stays endless on the palate. Its aromas and flavors of red berries explode into a lasting finish. Pair it with an oven-baked, Mediterranean-spiced pork belly. (Tasted: April 29, 2019, San Francisco, CA)

Wine Spectator
Quite ripe and plush, with bold raspberry, grilled anise and cracked pepper flavors, but well-structured enough to stay lively. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2023.

Linne Calodo, California
Founded in 1998 by Matt and Maureen Trevisan, Linne Calodo's name pays homage to the rich soils in the esteemed Paso Robles Willow Creek District. The team grows grapes, makes wines and fosters an environment that shies away from traditional, rigid and archetypal industry norms. Studying biochemistry at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and working his way up at area wineries, Matt's winemaking style is a healthy balance of art and science. Linne Calodo produces seven to ten blends per year using a myriad of varietals: Rhone, Zinfandel, as well as other esoteric varietals from around the world.

The Linne Calodo wines are driven by four factors: vineyard location, uncompromising viticultural practices, minimalist winemaking, and the desire to learn from experience. The vineyards are farmed sustainably and the crop loads reflect the natural balance of the vine. The Linne Calodo team believes in harvesting at the peak of ripeness to produce wines that are rich and concentrated in both flavor and texture. You are encouraged to visit!

With bold fruit flavors and accents of sweet spice, Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre form the base of the classic Rhône Red Blend, while Carignan, Cinsault and Counoise often come in to play. Though they originated from France’s southern Rhône Valley, with some creative interpretation, Rhône blends have also become popular in other countries. Somm Secret—Putting their own local spin on the Rhône Red Blend, those from Priorat often include Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. In California, it is not uncommon to see Petite Sirah make an appearance.
