The 2016 Rising Tides knocks it out of the park in 2016. A blend of 77% Grenache, 14% Mourvèdre, and 9% Syrah, this ruby-tinged beauty boasts thrilling notes of black raspberries, crushed flowers, dried herbs, and incense. Beautifully textured, medium to full-bodied, and elegant, it’s a sensational Grenache blend that does everything right. Brought up in a mix of concrete tanks and neutral larger French oak barrels, it’s one of the finest vintages for this cuvée to date. Drink it any time over the coming 7-8 years.

COMMENTARY: Does the world need another New World blend of red Rhône grapes? Yes, when the 2016 Linne Calodo Rising Tides is on the board. TASTING NOTES: This is a superior red blend. Its aromas and flavors of lush black fruit should pair superbly with a grilled ribeye. (Tasted: April 29, 2019, San Francisco, CA)

Though they originated from France’s southern Rhône Valley, with some creative interpretation, Rhône blends have also become popular in other countries. Somm Secret—Putting their own local spin on the Rhône Red Blend, those from Priorat often include Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. In California, it is not uncommon to see Petite Sirah make an appearance.
