Lindeman’s Bin Series Padthaway Shiraz 1997 Front Label
Lindeman’s Bin Series Padthaway Shiraz 1997 Front Label

Winemaker Notes

This dense, dark red-purple Shiraz is loaded with black pepper and black fruit aromas. The palate is full-bodied with concentrated lingering ripe berry fruit flavors, firm tannins and subtle vanilla oak in the background. These oak characters will meld with the softening spice of the Shiraz fruit to deliver an even more elegant, engaging wine with medium term cellaring of five to seven years. Serve with gutsy Mediterranean-style foods, char-grilled meats, rustic stews or platters of ripe cheeses.

Marked by an unmistakable deep purple hue and savory aromatics, Syrah makes an intense, powerful and often age-worthy red. Native to the Northern Rhône, Syrah achieves its maximum potential in the steep village of Hermitage and plays an important component in the Red Rhône Blends of the south, adding color and structure to Grenache and Mourvèdre. Syrah is the most widely planted grape of Australia and is important in California and Washington. Sommelier Secret—Such a synergy these three create together, the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre trio often takes on the shorthand term, “GSM.”

An inland subregion of the Limestone Coast, Padthaway has made a name for itself as a significant source of quality Shiraz even though the region grows other varieties. Padthaway is home to only a handful of producers; most Padthaway Shiraz goes to wines made outside of its borders.
