Showing excellent balance, the Tenuta La Massa 2021 La Massa is a wine of volume and intensity, but nothing about it is overdone. You get a pretty display of dark fruit and spice. The wine flaunts its hourglass figure with some points of baroque opulence and other points of muscular firmness. The blend is 50% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot, Alicante Bouschet and Petit Verdot. Fermentation is in steel vats, and the wine matures in barrique and tonneaux for 12 months, with 20% new oak.

Just bottled, the 2021 La Massa is superb. Dark cherry/plum fruit, new leather, tobacco, licorice, mocha and spice fill out the layers effortlessly. I can't wait to taste this with a bit more time in bottle. Best of all, La Massa is a terrific value. The 2021 is one of the best vintages yet from this estate. I can't think of too many wines in Tuscany that offer this much quality for the money.

Notes of ripe dark berries, ground spices and hints of walnuts and bark on the nose. Firm and lightly chewy on the palate, with a medium to full body. Layered and dense with a velvety texture to its tannins and a lingering aftertaste. Try after 2026.

Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best red wines. Sangiovese reigns supreme here, as either the single varietal, or a dominant player, in almost all of Tuscany’s best.

A remarkable Chianti, named for its region of origin, will have a bright acidity, supple tannins and plenty of cherry fruit character. From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
