Winemaker Notes

An inky, Byzantium purple, the 2019 Black Bart Syrah brims with rose petal, anise and cinnamon followed by sweet California bay leaf. Elegantly structured and lush with balanced acidity, velvety dark chocolate meets a zesty mid-palate of tart Montmorency cherry, finishing with a hint of cinnamon. This wine will linger on your palate.

Pair with ribeye steak with a wild mushroom bordelaise, or a gruyere pizza with caramelized onions and butter-fried sage.

Blend: 98% Syrah, 2% Petit Verdot

A blend of 98% Syrah and 2% Petit Verdot, the 2019 Black Bart Syrah is deep garnet-purple colored, offering pronounced tar and black peppercorn notes over a core of baked black plums, Black Forest cake and dried Provence herbs, plus a waft of aniseed. Full-bodied, rich and plush in the mouth, it has impressive freshness and loads of pepper-laced black fruit, finishing with a lively lift.

Undoubtedly proving its merit over and over, Napa Valley is a now a leading force in the world of prestigious red wine regions. Though Cabernet Sauvignon dominates Napa Valley, other red varieties certainly thrive here. Important but often overlooked include Merlot and other Bordeaux varieties well-regarded on their own as well as for their blending capacities. Very old vine Zinfandel represents an important historical stronghold for the region and Pinot noir is produced in the cooler southern parts, close to the San Pablo Bay.

Perfectly situated running north to south, the valley acts as a corridor, pulling cool, moist air up from the San Pablo Bay in the evenings during the hot days of the growing season, which leads to even and slow grape ripening. Furthermore the valley claims over 100 soil variations including layers of volcanic, gravel, sand and silt—a combination excellent for world-class red wine production.
