Kruger-Rumpf Munsterer Rheinberg Riesling Kabinett 2013 Front Label
Kruger-Rumpf Munsterer Rheinberg Riesling Kabinett 2013 Front Label

Winemaker Notes

An orgy of apples along with their skins, animated and contrapuntal, cox-orange flesh against granny smith skins; solid acid driven finish, and beautifully balanced; soulful texture from cask aging. A leap not forward but down, into truth and foundation. This isn’t a “little” Kabinett anymore.

This has clarity and grace as it builds in flavor, with red-blushed pear tones and earthy minerality that seem to reflect the soft contours of the Nahe in their shape. Open and mouthfilling without being weighty, it’s hard to resist, especially in the presence of pan-fried fish.

Riesling possesses a remarkable ability to reflect the character of wherever it is grown while still maintaining its identity. A regal variety of incredible purity and precision, this versatile grape can be just as enjoyable dry or sweet, young or old, still or sparkling and can age longer than nearly any other white variety. Somm Secret—Given how difficult it is to discern the level of sweetness in a Riesling from the label, here are some clues to find the dry ones. First, look for the world “trocken.” (“Halbtrocken” or “feinherb” mean off-dry.) Also a higher abv usually indicates a drier Riesling.
