    Winemaker Notes

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is a textbook example of the variety, featuring bright, expressive aromas of cassis, damson plum, and cedar that open to reveal enticing baking spices and violets. It begins soft and generous with a rounded mouthfeel and persistent dark fruits, but maintains good tension and energy that resonates from front to back. A ripe, bold, assertive Cabernet that captures the quality of its vintage and the expression of its Knights Valley terroir.

Bridging the counties of Sonoma and Napa, Knights Bridge Vineyards are located on the southern boundary of the stunning Knights Valley AVA of Sonoma County. Rising from 300 to 900 ft in elevation on the rocky slopes of the Mayacamas mountain range north of Calistoga, Knights Bridge Vineyards overlook a spectacular display of rolling hills, steep mountains and gentle valleys.

A committed partnership of friends, family and community has come together to form Knights Bridge Winery & Vineyards. They bring their considerable resources and talents to this venture, where they have created a solid foundation for the future.

Knights Bridge was founded by friends who are united in their quest for excellence, their deep respect for nature and their abiding love of wine and food. A noble variety bestowed with both power and concentration, Cabernet Sauvignon enjoys success all over the globe, its best examples showing potential to age beautifully for decades. Cabernet Sauvignon flourishes in Bordeaux's Medoc where it is often blended with Merlot and smaller amounts of some combination of Cabernet Franc, Malbecand Petit Verdot. In the Napa Valley, ‘Cab’ is responsible for some of the world’s most prestigious, age-worthy and sought-after “cult” wines. Somm Secret—DNA profiling in 1997 revealed that Cabernet Sauvignon was born from a spontaneous crossing of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc in 17th century southwest France.

A small and picturesque valley separating Napa Valley on its south border and Alexander Valley to its north, Knights Valley excels in similar varieties as the two aforementioned appellations, namely red Bordeaux varieties and blends, as well as Sauvignon blanc. Originally established by Beringer Vineyards, today several outstanding producers claim acreage here. The circadian cooling effects of the nearby Pacific Ocean create a nighttime respite for vineyards during the hot growing season.
