Winemaker Notes
Every vintage, our Kathryn Hall Cabernet Sauvignon is characterized by complex aromas and supple, layered tannin. The 2023 bottling is beautifully layered, with aromas blackcurrant, freshly turned earth, and cocoa nib. On the palate there is a wash of supple and balanced tannin with notes of dark bark berry, wet stone, violets and a touch of iron. This is a dense yet perfectly balanced wine to enjoy now and over the next 25-30 years.
Blend: 98% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Merlot

A blend of multiple sites, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall shows a saturated purple hue and offers smoky red and black fruits, graphite, tobacco, espresso roast, and chocolate. This puppy is full-bodied and has a deep, rich, opulent mouthfeel, remarkable purity, ripe, polished, chalky tannins, and a great finish. It's a powerful blockbuster styled beauty that brings the goods and will drink well over the coming 20-30 years. Drink 2025-2055.

Vinous
The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall is a vibrant, energetic wine that very much captures the style of this late-ripening vintage. Blackberry, new leather, lavender and mocha are some of the notes that build in this young, promising Cabernet Sauvignon. I very much admire the wine’s energy. Vineyard sites include Sacrashe, Montagna and Beller.

Black cherries and cassis join on the nose of the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall, blended of fruit from a few sites and aged 22 months in 70% new French oak. The cedary oak nicely frames the bold fruit, seemingly giving this full-bodied wine needed structure, with some mocha overtones lingering on the finish.

Aromas of blackcurrants, blackberries and plums alongside cocoa, spices and cedar. The palate is full-bodied with firmly framed tannins and a generous, dark-fruited finish.
Hall Wines is located in Napa Valley and employs organic small-vine viticulture, precision winemaking, wild-yeast fermentation and micro-block blending to fully extract the purity and quintessence of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Their estate vineyards encompass more than 300 acres of classic Bordeaux varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc. The Halls have a strong respect for the environment and a commitment to cutting edge technology to yield the highest quality grapes. Through meticulous attention to detail in the vineyards, Hall wines are able to express the unique and diverse character of Napa Valley's soils and climate.
One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.
Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
