Winemaker Notes
Montlouis Brut Nature is an exceptional sparkling wine from the Loire that showcases the craftsmanship of François Chidaine, who blends tradition and innovation while embracing biodynamic practices and a deep connection to his terroir. Made from 100% Chenin Blanc using traditional bottle fermentation, this Brut Nature offers wonderful freshness with flavors of white flowers and fresh citrus, complemented by an elegant mousse and subtle minerality. It has a clean, dry structure that highlights its lively character and pairs beautifully with aperitifs, salmon tartare, sushi, sashimi, ceviche, and seafood dishes such as coquilles Saint-Jacques on lentils.

The 2021 Brut Nature Méthode Traditionnelle, without dosage, was matured in demi-muids or large barrels. Unfurling from the glass with aromas of exotic fruits, pear and herbs mingled with a lovely reduction, it's round and sappy, fresh and delicate, with a lively, ethereal finish. It could gain depth and raciness with one or two years in the cellar. Rating: 91+
Representing the topmost expression of a Champagne house, a vintage Champagne is one made from the produce of a single, superior harvest year. Vintage Champagnes account for a mere 5% of total Champagne production and are produced about three times in a decade. Champagne is typically made as a blend of multiple years in order to preserve the house style; these will have non-vintage, or simply, NV on the label. The term, "vintage," as it applies to all wine, simply means a single harvest year.
On the south bank of the Loire River, below Vouvray, Montlouis produces all styles of Chenin blanc from bone dry, off-dry, sweet, oak aged and even the sparkling Montlouis Mousseux and Montlouis Pétillant Naturel. Soils here are lighter and sandier compared to Vouvray.
