Fords Gin is "The Cocktail Gin," created with the input of the world’s best bartenders. A modern take on a classic London Dry, Fords Gin is made with a versatile mix of nine botanicals to be the perfect base for any gin-inspired cocktail.
Fords Gin is a collaboration between 8th generation Master Distiller Charles Maxwell of Thames Distillers and Simon Ford, dedicated to creating spirits designed in unison with professional bartenders and celebrated distillers from around the world. A thoughtful mix of nine botanicals, Fords Gin starts with a traditional base of juniper and coriander seed balanced by citrus, florals and spices. Steeped for 15 hours before distillation, the botanicals deliver an aromatic, fresh and floral spirit with elegant notes of jasmine and grapefruit that creates a versatile base for any gin-inspired cocktail.
The journey to create Fords Gin began on cocktail napkins in the world’s greatest bars. As a “gin guru” with over 20 years of experience in the drinks business, Simon Ford found himself having countless conversations with fellow bartenders about the need for a go-to cocktail gin — a “Jack of All Trades”. Bartenders wanted a versatile spirit that could be used in any gin-based cocktail, no matter what ingredients the recipe called for. With some of the biggest names in the bar community by his side, Simon drew out flavor maps of botanicals on scraps of paper and then worked with them to match each one to a classic gin cocktail. These exercises began the process of determining the flavours that would be crucial to the formula and truly bring the versatility of Fords Gin, The Cocktail Gin, to life.
Produced only in accordance with strict purity standards formulated by an 18th century European Parliament that guaranteed the absence of toxic distillation byproducts, the phrase “London Dry” on a bottle doesn't refer to any specific place of origin, age or ingredients. To be called a London Dry Gin, the base spirit must be distilled in a column still to at minimum, 70% abv. Natural botanicals can be added to the resulting neutral spirit only through re-distillation. Anything added after distillation other than water and a tiny amount of sugar disqualifies a Gin from the title, London Dry.
