Winemaker Notes
This is without question one of our favorite Malbec bottlings in terms of
authenticity, character, and depth. If you ever wanted to know what
"Agrelo" Malbec tastes like at its best, let this be your lesson. Rarely do
we come across a wine that communicates "place" as this does. Brilliant
color, wild aromatics, rich mid-palate, incredible texture, this has it all.
Its thick, almost neon purple sediment is unlike anything we have ever
seen! Impenetrably dark. Aromas of plum, chocolate, baking spices, and hints
of vanilla. On the palate it is rich and viscous, with more dark fruit flavors
and round tannins.
Professional Ratings
Most distinguished and celebrated from Argentina’s Mendoza, Malbec has seen runaway success since the early 2000s. Mendoza’s agreeable, continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold snowy winters allows the perfect conditions for growing outstanding Malbec. This grape is easy to like for its lusty, deep flavors and aromas of blackberry, plum, red cherry, autumn spice and tilled earth. It’s easy to find delicious, fruit-driven, affordable everyday examples and in prices beyond, quite exceptional ones with dense, supple textures that make them capable of aging.
