Winemaker Notes

Enkidu Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon punches well above its weight, showcasing bold flavors with well-defined tannins. This wine is is in the next league up with its pure currant and blackberry fruit, a dose of garrique, black spice, a touch bittersweet chocolate, and a hint of sage. The aromas give way to currant and blackberry sandlewood and new oak in the flavors. The richness of this wine embraces you on the entrance and continues for a very long time…a hallmark of luxury Cabernets. Enjoyable now, but will go on for 15 years.

COMMENTARY: The 2019 Enkidu Cabernet Sauvignon is nicely built and balanced on the palate. TASTING NOTES: This wine offers aromas and flavors of black fruits, dust, and earthy notes. Pair it with a grilled, well-marbled ribeye. (Tasted: August 15, 2022, San Francisco, CA)

While Sonoma County is acclaimed—and rightfully so—for its Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs, and Zinfandels, it also produces exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. Of the region’s 18 American Viticultural Areas, only a handful produce top-notch Cabernet Sauvignon. These appellations include Alexander Valley, Knights Valley, Sonoma Valley and Dry Creek Valley. Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignons made in these appellations can offer a complex array of aromas and flavors. Fruit notes such as blackberry, blackcurrant, cassis, black cherry and raspberry often are accompanied by hints of graphite, dusty earth, cigar box, toast and vanilla. The varietal has a rich history in Sonoma, and some of these Cabernet Sauvignons and Cabernet-based blends rival the best from Napa Valley.
