Winemaker Notes
Elena Walch Lagrein gleams invitingly with its intensive and dense garnet redcolor. The complex bouquet captivates with discreet spicy aromas, with cocoatogether with wild berries and sweet cherries in the background. Distinctive tanninstructure, smooth fullness, playful yet rustic elegance and youthful freshness as wellas a long, juicy finish classify the palate.

Hints of smoke and bacon fat underscore the crushed black raspberry and boysenberry fruit of this well-balanced, medium-bodied red, which marries fine, taut tannins and plum skin acidity with the core of dark fruit. Accents of star anise, dried dill and thyme play out on the chewy finish.

The picturesque single estates of Castel Ringberg and Kastelaz are the heart of Elena Walch's vineyards, now working on a vineyard surface of 55ha. Finally, with the aim of making only the highest quality wines, Elena Walch has been honored with several national as well as international awards.
Incredibly concentrated and uncommonly sturdy in character, Lagrein has roots in the Alto Adige area and has recently experienced a great renaissance in popularity. While the climate is cool there, the sun is intense on the region’s steep slopes. Warm hillsides near the bustling city of Bolzano create the perfect environment for the production of intense reds from Lagrein. Somm Secret— Lagrein Kretzer (German) or Rosato (Italian) is the spicy rosé version, which is delicious with smoked fish and white meat.
