Winemaker Notes

Very aromatic and dark as a moonless night, the 2011 is an indelible feast that’s big, ripe, and energetic bursting with bramble fruit, roast game, smoke, graphite, roast nuts, and blueberry tart. All this juicy viscosity comes with ripe, silky tannins and the promise of a long life in the cellar.

Professional Ratings

A refined Petite Sirah, structured like a Cabernet but offering blackberry, cigar box and cracked pepper flavors that take on plump tannins on the finish. Drink now through 2027.

Eighty Four Winery Image
We started making wine together in 1984. The first few years were challenging – experimenting, working long hours, learning from our mistakes, pushing ourselves to make the best wines we could. They were exciting years. This wine represents two friends going full circle – making wine together, trying new things, doing what we love. That’s the spirit of Eighty Four. Enjoy!

Undoubtedly proving its merit over and over, Napa Valley is a now a leading force in the world of prestigious red wine regions. Though Cabernet Sauvignon dominates Napa Valley, other red varieties certainly thrive here. Important but often overlooked include Merlot and other Bordeaux varieties well-regarded on their own as well as for their blending capacities. Very old vine Zinfandel represents an important historical stronghold for the region and Pinot noir is produced in the cooler southern parts, close to the San Pablo Bay.

Perfectly situated running north to south, the valley acts as a corridor, pulling cool, moist air up from the San Pablo Bay in the evenings during the hot days of the growing season, which leads to even and slow grape ripening. Furthermore the valley claims over 100 soil variations including layers of volcanic, gravel, sand and silt—a combination excellent for world-class red wine production.
