Wine Enthusiast Top 100 Sprits of 2022
Elegant and aromatic, with rich dark fruit and delicate floral notes – fragrant jasmine and honeysuckle. The delicacy of the nose carries on into the palate, with the dried fruit providing a base on which to build other flavors. Peppery agave is accompanied by sweet banana and maple syrup, ground coffee and a sweet almond nuttiness. Very long, with dry spice and agave pepperiness.

Aged in a mix of casks that previously held Burgundy, Bordeaux and Loire wines, this complex Tequila is one to savor. Bell pepper and jalapeño aromas mingle with mild honey and cinnamon sweetness. The plush palate echoes that sweetness and spice, leading into a long finish tinged with cocoa and vanilla, plus a final zing of jalapeño heat.
Because of their great complexity, Anejo Tequilas are most often used as a substitute for Brandy or Whiskey in cocktails like the Manhattan or Old Fashioned. Anejo Tequilas must be aged in oak barrels for between one and three years, while Extra Anejo refers to any Tequila aged longer than three years. The prolonged contact with the oak barrel allows the wood to make a much stronger impression on the Tequila by adding toffee, caramel and vanilla to the sweet, spicy agave flavor profile.
