It is important to let the wine breathe for a while after it has been opened, in order to develop the fullness of its aromas. If only part of the wine is consumed, the remainder can be kept in the bottle for many years. It is possible that this wine will develop through this prior airing. Please remember to use the supplementary cork so that it is completely sealed. The winery recommends keeping the bottle upright, away from extreme temperatures. Serve at a temperature of approx. 18º C or room temperature. If the wine is kept in the bottle for many years, some natural deposit may accumulate. This is a sign of life and a part of the inherent natural qualities of this genuine Madeira. D'Oliveira advises you to take great care in serving it, so that it does not become cloudy. If preferred, it can be decanted.

This grape is as rare as hen’s teeth, having been driven almost to extinction, but is still much sought-after. Fragrant and floral aromas of candied fruit and rose petals; not especially rich, with a bittersweet twist. Very fine and delicate with ravishing acidity and length.

Today the vineyards of the island cover tiny step-like terraces called poios, carved from the basalt bedrock. Aptly named Madeira, this fortified wine comes in two main styles. Blended Madeira is mostly inexpensive wine but there are a few remarkable aged styles. Single varietal Madeira (made from Sercial, Verdelho, Boal or Malmsey), is usually the highest quality and has the potential to improve in the bottle for decades.
