Winemaker Notes

Dark crimson in color, our Napa Valley cabernet sauvignon exudes enticing aromas of cassis, boysenberry, lavender, sage, cedar, and tobacco leaf. A tantalizing palate offers a medley of peak-ripe, plums, wild berries, thyme, clove, and vanillin. Creamy fine grain tannins from front to finish. Rich, savory flavors that coat the mouth entirely and continuously. Dense and mouth wateringly juicy.

Aromas of violets, sage, lavender, and hints of currants. Blue fruit. Full body, very fine and polished tannins. Love the length and beauty. Very elegant. Drink or hold

This wine is composed of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon with 3% Cabernet Franc, 3% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley opens with spicy cassis and blueberry tart notions plus underlying bay leaves, cedar, pencil lead and smoked meat notes. Full-bodied, rich, concentrated and packed with black berry and spice box flavor layers, it has a firm backbone of grainy tannins and instills plenty of freshness on the finish.

A beautiful prototype from the Napa Valley, the firm and well-built 2014 CrossBarn by Paul Hobbs Cabernet Sauvignon exemplifies why this AVA is so stellar for this grape variety. This wine offers plenty of black fruit and savory oak on the palate. Pair with a rare cut of ribeye. (Tasted: August 9, 2017, San Francisco, CA)

One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
