Winemaker Notes

Deep, intense purple in color. The nose presents aromas of black fruits, blueberries, plums, and chocolate. The palate is concentrated, with soft, sweet tannins and black fruit flavors. Good structure and density.

Pair with roasted red meats or game; mushroom and truffle risotto; stir-fried pork and vegetables with a touch of spicy sweet-and-sour sau

I like the cherry, blackberry and fresh-herb character to this with white pepper. Medium to full body and very fine tannins. Racy and long. Such balance. No barrels here

Sitting almost 600 feet above sea level, the Palo Santo Vineyard is home to the grapes that comprise this wine. The blend of 90% Malbec and 10% Syrah originates on colluvial soils, influenced by coastal breezes from the Tinguiririca River, and is aged ten months in French oak barrels and 5,000-liter casks. Aromas of black fruit accompany the tarry, beefy nose; the palate, meanwhile, is a vibrant patter of blackberry, plum, orange peel, and iron around a lean core of minerality. There's an Old World personality here, with striking acidity and a finish of sweet and tart fruit.

The enticing and fragrant nose of this medium-bodied Malbec opens with floral, raspberry and licorice aromas. It retains fresh fruit purity on the palate, and displays cherry and chocolate flavors alongside firm tannins. It's very balanced and approachable, with a medium-fresh finish.

Celebrated for its bold flavors and supple texture, Malbec has enjoyed runaway success in Argentina since the late 20th century. The grape originated in Bordeaux, France, where it historically contributed color and tannin to blends. A French agronomist, who saw great potential for the variety in Mendoza’s hot, high-altitude landscape, brought Malbec to Argentina in 1868. Somm Secret—If you’re trying to please a crowd, Malbec is generally a safe bet with its combination of dense fruit and soft tannins.

Well-regarded for intense and exceptionally high quality red wines, the Colchagua Valley is situated in the southern part of Chile’s Rapel Valley, with many of the best vineyards lying in the foothills of the Coastal Range.

Heavy French investment and cutting-edge technology in both the vineyard and the winery has been a boon to the local viticultural industry, which already laid claim to ancient vines and a textbook Mediterranean climate.

The warm, dry growing season in the Colchagua Valley favors robust reds made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Malbec and Syrah—in fact, some of Chile’s very best are made here. A small amount of good white wine is produced from Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
