The nose introduces notes of toasted coconut, vanilla, American coffee, bing cherry and strawberry. The cherries and strawberries swell on the palate, but a bite of pepper and a bit of graphite push back against the plush fruit. Tannins are very chewy.

The 2022 Montecucco Rosso Rigoleto opens with a vivid bouquet of wild strawberries, rhubarb, violets and crushed stones. It's silken in feel, boasting impressive weight yet wonderful energy as a wave of ripe red and blue fruits swirl beneath a perfumed air of lavender and spice. A web of fine-grained tannins lingers as the 2022 finishes with hints of sous-bois complicating notes of hard red candy.

This red is supple yet well-structured, featuring cherry, raspberry, floral and mineral flavors. The dense tannins provide support, but they aren't overbearing and should fall into place over the next six months to a year. Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo and Montepulciano. Drink now through 2029.
