Winemaker Notes

Rich raspberry and cherry fruit aromas, with subtle spicy bay laurel and white pepper notes. Takes 2-3 hours to open up, yielding sappy notes and rich, broad tannins, reflective of these 28-year-old vines. Highly recommended for your long-term cellar program.

Professional Ratings

Out of an extensive tasting of both new releases and library vintages, this was the knockout of the lineup. Aged for 22 months in French oak, 35% new, 275 cases were made. It has an intoxicating nose, equal parts floral, sweet, and savoury. The palate is deep and expansive, and the signature Cobb 'powdery' tannin structure wraps up the wine nicely. Over several hours this never smelled or tasted the same way twice. Highly recommended. Drinking Window 2019 - 2040

The Sonoma Coast AVA is large in area but, not counting overlapping regions like Russian River Valley, only has a few thousand acres of grapevines—and it’s no wonder. Much of the region is rugged and not easily accessible. Its proximity to the Pacific Ocean’s fog and cool breezes limits the varieties that can be cultivated, but it proves to be an ideal environment for high quality Pinot Noir.

Since fog is a frequent fact of life here, as are heavy marine layers that sometimes bring rain, the best vineyards are wisely planted above the fog line, on picturesque ridges that capture enough sun to provide even ripening. That, with the overnight drop in temperature that reliably preserves acidity, results in fine expressions of Pinot Noir that often receive tremendous critic and consumer praise alike, and are often in high demand.
