Pale ruby-purple in color, the 2018 Pinot Noir Mitsuko's Vineyard springs from the glass with very pretty notions of fresh raspberries, Bing cherries and wild strawberries with nuances of rose hip tea, cinnamon stick and forest floor plus a waft of lavender. Medium-bodied, elegant and refreshing, it has a fragrant, quiet intensity and wonderfully pure finish.
Moving to the reds, the 2018 Pinot Noir Mitsuko's Vineyard has a Côte de Beaune-like charm and elegance in its light cherry and strawberry fruit as well as its floral, leafy herb-like aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, rounded, and charming, it’s another balanced, incredibly drinkable wine from this estate that has lots to love.
Clos Pegase is renowned for its handcrafted collection of award-winning wines, sourced exclusively from their 410 acres of estate vineyards. The winery itself was designed by famed architect Michael Graves and is one of the most iconic destinations in Napa Valley.
As early as the 1970s Carneros became known as a source of terrific Pinot Noir, and was one of the first California regions to gain such a reputation. The combination of sunny days, cooling fog and thin clay soils are tailor-made for the variety. Another factor in Pinot Noir’s prominent place here is vintners’ willingness to experiment widely. The history of the grape in Carneros is marked by continuous research into clonal variations, viticultural techniques and site selection. Careful evaluation over time has revealed a signature flavor profile as well. Complex aromas and flavors of cherry, red berry, spice, earth and cola appear time and again in Carneros Pinot Noir. To this day the appellation remains one of California’s standard bearers for the variety.
