Clos Pegase Mitsuko's Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014 Front Bottle Shot Clos Pegase Mitsuko's Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014 Front Label

Winemaker Notes

This 2014 Pinot Noir has deep complex aromas of red cherries, cranberries, raspberries and strawberries accented by dried shiitake mushrooms, Darjeeling tea, orchids, sweet spices and wisps of incense. The wine is round and plush in the mouth, deftly balancing engaging fleshiness with pitch perfect acidity and a broad, full mouthfeel.

An engaging effort, the 2014 Clos Pegase Pinot Noir shows that the Napa Valley portion of the Carneros AVA can indeed produce excellent examples of this grape variety. This wine exhibits ripe, black fruit aromas and flavors, some dried earth, and a touch of wild leaves. Pair with a rosemary-infused leg of lamb. ((Tasted: August 9, 2017, San Francisco, CA)

As early as the 1970s Carneros became known as a source of terrific Pinot Noir, and was one of the first California regions to gain such a reputation. The combination of sunny days, cooling fog and thin clay soils are tailor-made for the variety. Another factor in Pinot Noir’s prominent place here is vintners’ willingness to experiment widely. The history of the grape in Carneros is marked by continuous research into clonal variations, viticultural techniques and site selection. Careful evaluation over time has revealed a signature flavor profile as well. Complex aromas and flavors of cherry, red berry, spice, earth and cola appear time and again in Carneros Pinot Noir. To this day the appellation remains one of California’s standard bearers for the variety.
