Winemaker Notes

This stunning Cabernet Sauvignon is a of two counties. tale of two appellations within Lake County. Crafted with grapes grown in the High Valley and Red Hills appellations, it’s a seamless representation of the best of both worlds.

Together, these vineyards produce a wine with rich cassis aromas marked by notes of lavender and vanilla, that lead to raspberry and cherry flavors elevated with a long tobacco and redcurrant finish.

Bright fruit, spice, texture, and all of the tannin is a hallmark of the high elevation vineyards of Lake County. The dark fruits, old world characters and dried herbs come from the lower elevations of north Napa County.

This deep and delicious wine holds its black-cherry and black-currant flavors firmly with fine-grained tannins as the wine seeps into every corner of the palate, exuding richness tempered only by lightly restraining acidity and the soft tannins. Best from 2030. Editors’ Choice

COMMENTARY: The 2019 Clay Shannon Cabernet Sauvignon is generous and lasting on the palate. TASTING NOTES: This wine excels with aromas of black fruits, licorice, and oak. Enjoy it with a grilled, well-marbled ribeye. (Tasted: November 16, 2022, San Francisco, CA)

Aromas of blackcurrants, red licorice and woody spice. Full-bodied with bright acidity and fine, powdery tannins. Linear onto the palate with the woody spice coming through even more clearly.

In the Napa Valley, ‘Cab’ is responsible for some of the world’s most prestigious, age-worthy and sought-after “cult” wines. Somm Secret—DNA profiling in 1997 revealed that Cabernet Sauvignon was born from a spontaneous crossing of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc in 17th century southwest France.

Reaching up California's coastline and into its valleys north of San Francisco, the North Coast AVA includes six counties: Marin, Solano, Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake. While Napa and Sonoma enjoy most of the glory, the rest produce no shortage of quality wines in an intriguing and diverse range of styles.

Climbing up the state's rugged coastline, the chilly Marin County, just above the City and most of Sonoma County, as well as Mendocino County on the far north end of the North Coast successfully grow cool-climate varieties like Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and in some spots, Riesling. Inland Lake County, on the other hand, is considerably warmer, and Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and Sauvignon Blanc produce some impressive wines with affordable price tags.
