    Winemaker Notes

Pure berry aromas define the nose on this highly drinkable Garnacha-Syrah blend. On the palate, it's clean, juicy, round and easy. Typical Garnacha flavors of plum and berry with a little white pepper spice on the finish. A killer value.

    Cinco Joses Winery Image
Cinco Joses is a proprietary wine to Spanish Vines produced and bottled by Bodegas Aragonesas located in Northwest Aragon, within the Campo de Borja DO. At the epicenter of the origin of the Garnacha variety, the average age of the vines for this wine range 40-50 years of age, and even reach up to 100 years. This area is set between the famed wine regions of DOCa Rioja and Catalonia, located along the Sierra Moncayo mountain range and the Ebro River Valley. This is a privileged area for growing high quality grapes due to its climate, soil type, and the protection afforded by the mountains generating the cooling winds (or Cierzo) during the harsh summer months. Winemaker, Javier Vela, comes from a longstanding lineage of vintners and viticulturists from within the province.

Known for its bold, heady, rustic and age-worthy red wines, Spain is truly a one-of-a-kind wine-producing nation. A great majority of the country is hot, arid and drought-ridden, and since irrigation has only been recently introduced and (controversially) accepted, viticulture has sustained—and flourished—only through a great understanding of Spain’s particular conditions. Large spacing between vines allows each enough resources to survive and as a result, the country has the most acreage under vine compared to any other country, but is usually third in production.

Most planted and respected is Tempranillo, the star of Spain’s Rioja and Ribera del Duero regions. Priorat specializes in bold red blends, Jumilla has gained global recognition for its single varietal Monastrell and Utiel-Requena has garnered recent attention for its reds made of Bobal.
