Winemaker Notes

Révélation is the signature wine, a true Pauillac-inspired Cabernet Sauvignon. The hallmarks of the 2016 are balance and depth. First, the nose releases traditional varietal notes of black fruits and brown sugar, licorice, and cassis, with the fine tannins produced on the mountain, reflecting the vine-ripened flavors that developed until harvested in early September.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Revelation was aged for 20 months in 65% new French oak. Deep ruby, it gives up Morello cherries, crushed blackcurrants, roasted plum, cedar, pencil shavings and tobacco leaves with accents of violet, cocoa, eucalyptus and a classy frame of sweet spices. Medium to full-bodied, it's powerful and intense but plush and seductive, wrapped by granulated tannins and seamless freshness and finishes very long. This should age very well but is perfectly approachable now.

While Sonoma County is acclaimed—and rightfully so—for its Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs, and Zinfandels, it also produces exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. Of the region’s 18 American Viticultural Areas, only a handful produce top-notch Cabernet Sauvignon. These appellations include Alexander Valley, Knights Valley, Sonoma Valley and Dry Creek Valley. Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignons made in these appellations can offer a complex array of aromas and flavors. Fruit notes such as blackberry, blackcurrant, cassis, black cherry and raspberry often are accompanied by hints of graphite, dusty earth, cigar box, toast and vanilla. The varietal has a rich history in Sonoma, and some of these Cabernet Sauvignons and Cabernet-based blends rival the best from Napa Valley.
