Winemaker Notes

Garnet red color with orange reflections. Ample and complex bouquet with notes recalling truffle and licorice. In the mouth it feels dry, full and velvety, unfolding a great personality.

James Suckling
A young wine that builds on the palate with plums, spices, cedar and hints of chocolate. Turns to hazelnuts. Full to medium body, but this builds on the palate. Juicy and chewy with caressing tannins. Love the way it grows on the palate. Better in 2019.

Wine Spectator
A gorgeous red, featuring all the hallmarks of great Barolo, with cherry, strawberry, floral and tobacco flavors that show hints of tar and licorice. The beefy tannins are there, but they’re not overwhelming, and this glides to a lingering aftertaste of fruit, mineral and savory elements. Best from 2020 through 2038.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2012 Barolo Falletto is a bit timid to open and needs extra time in the glass (especially when tasted this young). This wine was bottled in March. The wine already shows impressive complexity and depth with drying mineral notes that frame a pretty core of cherry and blackberry fruit. Background notes of light spice and grilled herb complete this pretty picture. What stands out most here, however, is the tight textural fabric of this wine. It is poised for very good aging potential. Rating: 93+

Bruno Giacosa, Italy
Bruno Giacosa Azienda Agricola Falletto Winery Winery Image

One of the legendary winemakers of the world, Bruno Giacosa crafted the most prestigious single-vineyard Barolo and Barbaresco wines during a career that spanned nearly eight decades. He joined the family business at the age of 15, representing the third generation of his Langhe winemaking family. Giacosa’s unfailing pursuit of perfection, his unrivalled palate and his intimate knowledge of vineyards in the Langhe quickly drew recognition and helped establish Piedmont as a leading wine region. In 1982, Giacosa began to acquire prime parcels in Serralunga d’Alba, La Morra and Barbaresco to produce wines that are rightly regarded as the finest expressions of Nebbiolo.

His legacy rests with daughter Bruna, who continues to uphold her father’s winemaking philosophy to respect traditional techniques while using the best of modern technology. The goal is for each distinguished site to produce articulate, unique wines.

The “Azienda Agricola Falletto – di Bruno Giacosa” label represents wines made from estate vineyards. The “Casa Vinicola Bruno Giacosa” label appears on wines made from purchased grapes that are made with the same care in the Nieve winery.
