Bouchaine Estate Chardonnay 2007 Front Label

Winemaker Notes

We are pleased to offer our Chardonnay as an estate wine, using only grapes grown in our own Napa Valley-Carneros estate vineyards. A bright and citrusy Chardonnay with a hint of fresh white flowers, it brings to mind the scent of meyer lemons and oro blanco pomelos. A touch of minerality, a smooth yet tactile texture, and an effortless accent of cream make this a satisfyingly complete Chardonnay.

This balanced Chardonnay easily complements an array of menu items, including seafood dishes such as mahi mahi grilled with meyer lemons or pan seared scallops with caramelized shallots. Also delicious with an herb-rubbed roasted chicken, or with pasta tossed in olive oil, lemon juice, fresh peas and chopped prosciutto.

Bouchaine wines are a compelling expression of nature and culture, a marriage of grape and craft that harmonizes the elegance of Burgundy with the exuberance of California.

Bouchaine Vineyards is established in the site of the oldest continually operated winery in Carneros in the southern end of the Napa Valley. Bouchaine is dedicated to the pursuit of enticing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, whose grapes are best suited to the climate and soils of our beautiful 100-acre estate vineyard. Located just north of the San Pablo and San Francisco Bays, the vineyard climate is directly influenced by the fog that rolls in each night, and the shallow, clay loam soils are perfectly suited to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

One of the most popular and versatile white wine grapes, Chardonnay offers a wide range of flavors and styles depending on where it is grown and how it is made. While it tends to flourish in most environments, Chardonnay from its Burgundian homeland produces some of the most remarkable and longest lived examples. California produces both oaky, buttery styles and leaner, European-inspired wines. Somm Secret—The Burgundian subregion of Chablis, while typically using older oak barrels, produces a bright style similar to the unoaked style. Anyone who doesn't like oaky Chardonnay would likely enjoy Chablis.

Known for elegant wines that combine power and finesse, Carneros is set in the rolling hills that straddle the southernmost parts of both Sonoma and Napa counties. The cooling winds from the abutting San Pablo Bay, combined with lots of midday California sunshine, create an ideal environment for producing wines with a perfect balance of crisp acidity and well-ripened fruit.

This cooler pocket of California lends itself to growing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah. Carneros is an important source of sparkling wines made in the style of Champagne as well.
