Winemaker Notes

The winery is located near the town of Capcanes next to a nature reserve park. The climate is Mediterranean and the vineyards are at 500-600 meters in elevation. The soils are similar to Priorat with Montsant being a bit more complex with a mixture of slate, sandy clay, and chalk. The vineyards for the Garnatxa Blanca are planted on slate soils.

Producing full-bodied white wines, Grenache Blanc can be unctuous and soft or floral and fresh. Some of the finest examples are terroir-driven, age-worthy wines. It is a key ingredient in white Châteauneuf-du-Pape and many white blends across southern France and NE Spain. Somm Secret—Grenache Blanc plays a key role in the vins doux naturels of Rivesaltes and a subsidiary role in those of Banyuls and Maury.

Surrounding the region of Priorat on all sides, Montsant shares much in common with its neighbor. Though its soils contain less schist than that of Priorat, its old Garnacha and Carinena vineyards produce wines of similar intensity and character.
