Winemaker Notes

The 20125 Crianza displays an intense red cherry color, clean and bright. On the nose, fine aromas to mature fruit dominate, combined with spicy notes, cocoa and balsamic touches. In mouth, it is rounded, expressive and well balanced. Very long and persistent finish.

It is the perfect wine to accompany stews, roasts and grilled red meat, as well as mature cheeses and cold meats.

Blend: 90% Tempranillo, 10% Garciano

Wine Spectator
Smoke and black olive notes add a savory element to the black cherry, licorice and espresso flavors in this focused red. Light, firm tannins and balsamic acidity support the polished texture. Drink now through 2022.

Bodegas Valdemar, Spain
Bodegas Valdemar Winery Image
The Martinez Bujanda family, producers of Valdemar wines, founded their original winery in 1889. They own 820 acres of vineyards, which makes Valdemar one of the largest estates in the Rioja. A new winery was built in 1984 to take advantage of modern technologies, integrating both new and time-honored traditions of winemaking.

Hailed as the star red variety in Spain’s most celebrated wine region, Tempranillo from Rioja, or simply labeled, “Rioja,” produces elegant wines with complex notes of red and black fruit, crushed rock, leather, toast and tobacco, whose best examples are fully capable of decades of improvement in the cellar.

Rioja wines are typically a blend of fruit from its three sub-regions: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Oriental, although specific sub-region (zonas), village (municipios) and vineyard (viñedo singular) wines can now be labeled. Rioja Alta and Alavesa, at the highest elevations, are considered to be the source of the brightest, most elegant fruit, while grapes from the warmer and drier, Rioja Oriental, produce wines with deep color, great body and richness.
