Very focused, with a pure beam of blackberry and boysenberry fruit that is kept honest by a superracy graphite note. The long, juicy finish lets mineral and purple licorice notes linger. Lots of fun to drink. Malbec and Merlot. Drink now through 2011.”
The 2007 Malbec J. Alberto offers up aromas of pain grille, mineral, violets, black cherry, and licorice. Dense and concentrated, it is the most structured of these wines and should evolve for 4-6 years at the least.
Residing on the 39th latitude, Bodega Noemia is one of the southern-most wineries in the world. A region of glacial origins with poor soil and limestone-rich bedrock, it benefits from the mineral-rich waters of the Limay and Neuquen rivers. First plated in 1932, the original pre-phylloxera rootstock of the vineyards was carefully resuscitated starting in 2001, and winemaker Hans Vinding-Diers oversaw the estate'd Massale selections in order to create tailored vineyard compositions. To amplify the terroir's signature in the final wines, fermentation is carried out using only indigenous yeasts. Committed to protecting this unique patrimony, almost all Bodega Noemia wines are produced in accordance with Argencert organic and Demeter biodynamic standards.
Most distinguished and celebrated from Argentina’s Mendoza, Malbec has seen runaway success since the early 2000s. Mendoza’s agreeable, continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold snowy winters allows the perfect conditions for growing outstanding Malbec. This grape is easy to like for its lusty, deep flavors and aromas of blackberry, plum, red cherry, autumn spice and tilled earth. It’s easy to find delicious, fruit-driven, affordable everyday examples and in prices beyond, quite exceptional ones with dense, supple textures that make them capable of aging.
