Winemaker Notes

The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon from Black Stallion Estate Winery captures the essence of Napa Valley’s remarkably balanced growing season. A long, temperate year allowed the fruit to achieve exceptional depth and purity, yielding a wine of both richness and poise. Enticing aromas of blackberry, black currant, cedar, andespresso lead to a palate brimming with ripe black cherry and dark fruit, framed by fine-grained tannins and a vibrant freshness. Full-bodied yet remarkably approachable, this vintage offers a harmonious interplay of intensity and elegance. The finish is generous and long – an eloquent expression of balance, structure, and finesse that has become synonymous with Napa Valley’s finest Cabernets.

Blend: 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petite Sirah, 3% Syrah, 2% Other

Black Stallion Estate Winery is named in honor of the historic Silverado Horseman's equestrian center that once graced the property. The winery showcases the best of Napa Valley’s diverse wine growing regions by carefully selecting grapes from an array of vineyards that reflect different Napa Valley terroirs. In some instances it's a single vineyard block or a single row within a block. We blend the best lots to craft world-class wines, brimming with rich flavors and gracious, mouth filling textures.

One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
